INET

The Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) is a pivotal examination for the recruitment of officers, overseen by the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Navy) / Directorate of Manpower Planning and Recruitment (DMPR). INET facilitates entry into both Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC) roles. This examination is conducted twice annually, providing aspiring candidates with two opportunities each year to join the Indian Navy as officers.

Selection Procedure in Indian Navy

INET Examination

​

  • Type: INET (Officer) is a computer-based written examination.

  • Structure: The exam comprises four sections, and candidates must achieve a minimum of 40% marks in each section to pass.

 

Examination Centre:

​

  • All eligible candidates whose applications are received on time will be invited to take the INET at one of their chosen INET centers, subject to slot availability.

  • Candidates must download their Call-up Letters cum Admit Cards from the official website www.joinindiannavy.gov.in, which will provide details about the date, time, and location of the exam.

  • Communication with candidates will be conducted solely via electronic means throughout the selection process. Once a center is selected, it cannot be changed under any circumstances.

 

INET Syllabus:

​

  • Duration: The exam lasts for two hours.

  • Format: It consists of 100 Multiple Choice Questions covering:

    • English

    • Reasoning & Numerical Ability

    • General Knowledge

    • General Science & Mathematical Aptitude

  • Scoring: Each section is worth 100 marks, with a penalty of one mark for each incorrect answer.

 

Shortlisting for SSB Interview

​

  • The Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Navy) (IHQ of MoD (N)) will shortlist candidates based on INET rank, preferences, and choices.

  • Candidates must pass all sections of the INET to be considered for the shortlisting process.

  • No communication regarding the shortlisting decision will be entertained.

  • SSB Interview Locations:

    • Pilot & NAO Candidates: Scheduled at Bangalore.

    • Other Branches/Entries: Scheduled at Bangalore, Bhopal, Visakhapatnam, or Kolkata.

  • Shortlisted candidates will receive notifications about their SSB interview selection via email or SMS (as provided in their application forms).

  • Candidates are advised to maintain the same email and mobile number throughout the selection process.
