The Indian Air Force (IAF) invites applications for the Selection Test to join as Airmen in either Group X Technical Trades, Group Y Non-Technical Trades (except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF Police, IAF Security, and Musician), or both Groups X & Y.

Eligibility and Application Process

​

  • Eligibility: Unmarried male Indian citizens, including citizens of Nepal, are eligible to apply.

  • Application: Eligible candidates can apply online for Group X, Group Y, or both Groups X & Y through the official website www.airmenselection.gov.in.

 

Selection Test

​

  • Dates: The Selection Test will be conducted in April - May.

  • Trades:

    • Group X Technical Trades: Focus on technical aspects.

    • Group Y Non-Technical Trades: Excluding Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF Police, IAF Security, and Musician trades.

Group X Recruitment

​

Overview: Group X Recruitment Test is designed for both technical and non-technical trades, conducted as per the All India Selection Tests and Recruitment Rally schedules.

Technical Trades:

  • Automobile Fitter

  • Electronics Fitter

  • Electrical Fitter

  • Mechanical System Fitter

  • Structure Fitter

  • Propulsion Fitter

  • Workshop Fitter/Smith

  • Workshop Fitter/Mechanical

  • Weapon Fitter

Non-Technical Trade:

  • Education Instructor

Exam Details:

Technical Trades: The test paper generally includes questions on:

  • English

  • Physics

  • Mathematics

Duration: 1 Hour

Education Instructor Trade:

  • Paper 1 (Objective Type):

    • General English, General Awareness, Current Affairs

    • Duration: 40 Minutes

  • Paper 2 (Descriptive Type):

    • Language comprehension and power of expression

    • Duration: 35 Minutes

 

Group Y Recruitment

Overview: Group Y Recruitment Test is conducted for the recruitment of Airmen in various non-technical and select technical trades.

Non-Technical Trades:

  • Admin Assistant

  • Accounts Assistant

  • Medical Assistant

  • Logistics Assistant

  • Environmental Support Services Assistant (ESSA)

  • Ops Assistant

  • Meteorological Assistant

  • Ground Training Instructor

  • IAF Police

  • IAF Security

  • Musician

Technical Trades:

  • Auto Technician

  • Communication Technician

Exam Details:

Non-Technical Trades: The test paper generally includes questions on:

  • English

  • Reasoning

  • General Awareness

Duration: 45 Minutes

 

Selection and Recruitment Process

​

The selection process for both Group X and Group Y involves multiple stages:

  1. Verification of Eligibility: Checking of documents and eligibility criteria.

  2. Written Test: Subject-specific exams.

  3. Adaptability Test: Assessing the candidate's adaptability to military conditions.

  4. Physical Fitness Test (PFT): Evaluation of physical fitness.

  5. Interview: Personal interview to assess suitability.

  6. Medical Examination: Comprehensive medical check-up to ensure fitness.

All India Select List (AISL): Candidates are included in the AISL based on their performance in the exams and subsequent stages.
