AFCAT Exam

The Indian Air Force conducts the Airforce Common Admission Test (AFCAT) to select officers for all its branches. AFCAT is a multiple-choice examination designed to assess a candidate's knowledge in English, Mathematics, and General Awareness. This test is conducted twice a year, with the syllabus released a few months prior to the exam date.

Aspiring candidates who wish to join the Indian Air Force must successfully clear the AFCAT exam. AFCAT Exam Marking Scheme

  1. Correct Answers: Each correct answer will earn you 3 marks.

  2. Incorrect Answers: For every incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

  3. Unattempted Questions: No marks will be awarded or deducted for questions that are not attempted.

  4. Normalization of Scores: Before the results are declared, the marks scored by candidates will be normalized to ensure fairness and consistency.

AFCAT Exam Structure

The AFCAT Question Paper consists of 100 questions to be completed within a time frame of two hours. The exam covers a wide array of topics including:

  • English: Comprehension, Error Detection, Sentence Completion, Synonyms, Antonyms, Cloze Test, Idioms & Phrases, Analogy, Sentence Rearrangement.

  • General Awareness: History, Geography, Sports, Organizations (National & International), Art & Culture, Personalities, Environment & Ecology, Indian Polity, Economy, Basic Science, Science & Technology, Current Affairs (National & International), Defence.

  • Numerical Ability: Decimal Fraction, Time and Work, Average, Percentage, Profit & Loss, Ratio & Proportion, Simple and Compound Interest, Time & Distance, Races (Trains/ Boats & Streams), Area and Perimeter, Probability, Number System & Number Series, Mixture & Allegation, Clocks.

  • Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test: Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

 
Important Points to Note

  • The Numerical Ability questions are based on Matriculation level standards, while other subjects are based on graduation level (Indian University).

  • The entire examination is conducted in English.
